Carnation is a rural Western Washington community of 1,905 residents that isapproximately 1.2 square miles in size. A 30-mile drive east of Seattle and 15 minutes east of Redmond, Carnation is located along SR-203 in the beautiful Snoqualmie Valley.
The city is governed under the Council-Manager plan by an elected five-member City Council and a City Manager. Every two years in January, the City Council elects from among themselves a chairperson to serve as Mayor. The mayor appoints a five-member Planning Board to provide recommendations to the Council regarding coordinated plans for the physical development of the city. Other appointed boards and committees at the City of Carnation include the Parks Committee and the Community Police Advisory Board.
